Steven Ray Harris

Steven R. Harris (1SG, United States Army, Retired),66, passed away suddenly Monday, December 9, 2019, at Liberty Regional Medical Center.

A native of Gastonia, NC, he was a resident of Hinesville for the past 20 years.   He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service at the rank of First Sergeant and later retired from civil service.  Steve enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Cherokee Rose Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Cheryl Harris; children, Richard Harris (Tammi) of Fredericksburg, VA, Jennifer Van Horn (Serafino) of Maryland, Tracey Hugo of Hinesville, and Roger Reed of Hinesville; seven granddaughters and one grandson; three great-grandchildren; and sister, June Clark of Florida.

Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 am, Friday, December 13, 2019, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at 1 pm in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
