On September 30, Sokanta Daoheuang (affectionately known to friends and family as So), passed away peacefully with his family by his side. So was born on February 1, 1968, in Savannakhet, Laos to Sythanh & Khene. He was the oldest of 6 children. In 1981, he immigrated to the United States with his Aunt & Uncle, Suzanne and Bo Daoheuang.
He was very active in sports prior to his kidney disease diagnosis. He played on the Varsity Soccer and boys varsity volley ball team at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden, CT. So loved to go fishing with his friends and always enjoyed eating at buffets with his friends and family. He graduated from Savannah High School.
Sokanta was diagnosed with kidney disease in 1994, and continued to undergo dialysis. It was a long, hard road for him, and at times it got tough, but he was always a fighter. But, 2020 proved to be his toughest year and his last year here on earth with us. Dialysis, chemo and radiation had taken its toll on him.
All though he didn’t have any children of his own, Mimi, Ethan, Eric, and Bebe were all his children. Loong (Lao for Uncle) loved, cared for, and cherished his nieces and nephews like they were his own.
Sokanta was a devout, practicing Buddist and believed in reincarnation. We pray for his transition into the next life.
So is survived by his aunt Suzanne (Bountieng) Daoheuang of Savannah, GA; sisters, Teena Rustin (Carl), Souk (Sap), Pany; two brothers, Phetsamone and Kantaboulee; two uncles, Konesouthy (Bounta) of Meriden, Connecticut and Jimmy Xayadeth (Pait); cousins, Seth Daoheuang (Bay), Van Thong Phaviseth (Diana), Sue Rintharamy (Tho), Youa Daoheuang (Emily), TC Daoheuang (Noy), Phet Lipes (Will), Molly Cohen (Lance), Phet Daoheuang (TuTu); nieces and nephews, Amaya Phillips, Ethan and Eric Cohen, Bebe Daoheuang, Ben Daoheuang, Camden and Tyson Daoheuang, Joe, Syvilai, Phetsamy, and Hmum; as well as a number of close life-long friends, but more like brothers, Boune Seangthong (Pat), Gabriel Roberson (Mya) and Somneuk Rasamee (Sue).
Memorial services were private and have already been held. Another ceremony will be held at a separate time.
