Sara Jane Martin Durrence Eskew, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 15, 1933 in Hinesville to Rudolph and Bertha Martin. She graduated from Bradwell Institute and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hinesville, the Bertha Martin Women’s Circle, and the Ollie Darsey Sunday School Class. Sara worked as Comptroller Directorate at Fort Stewart, GA for 35 years. After retirement, she provided financial services at Cherokee Rose Country Club and Midway United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Cherokee Rose Ladies Golf Association and “Cheating Dozen” golf group for many years.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Billy Durrence; second husband of 4 years, Earle Eskew; sister, Mary Lee Zoucks; and granddaughter, Melanie Lane Wells.
She is survived by her sons, Freddy (Valerie) Durrence of Colonel’s Island, Al (Joann) Durrence of Brooklet, and Randy Durrence of Hinesville; daughter, Sharon Durrence of Hinesville; foster daughter, Libby Clements Wallace of Claxton; sisters, Jackie Shuman and Ann Bean of Hinesville; and brother, Jerry (Julie) Martin of Riceboro. She was also blessed with many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Hinesville First United Methodist Church. Burial will immediately follow in Hinesville Cemetery.
