Sandra Young Mobley

Sandra (Sandy) Young Mobley, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at home surrounded by family and friends. Born October 17, 1946, she was the daughter of William Lester Young and Estelle (Nute) Deal Young. 

After graduating from Bradwell Institute in 1964, displaying the independent person that she was throughout her life, Sandy applied and was accepted for a telephone operator position with the Southern Bell Telephone Company in Atlanta, Georgia.  After transferring from there to the Southern Bell Telephone Company in Jesup, Georgia, she eventually returned to Hinesville to continue her telephone operator career with the independent telephone company, Coastal Utilities, Inc., eventually retiring in 2002. After retirement, she continued part-time employment with Enterprise Car Rentals and also officiated sporting events for several years as a member of The Hinesville Officials Association.

Sandy proved to be a competitive athlete by riding horses and competing in various horseshow events throughout her early years. She continued her athletic pursuits, playing high school basketball at Bradwell, and adult softball in the Liberty County Recreation Leagues for many years.   She was an avid fan of Duke basketball, Atlanta Braves, and any other college basketball or football game or major league baseball game that she could watch on TV. Additionally, she enjoyed freshwater fishing, bowling, playing Mahjong, and being Nanaw to Grands, Great Grands, and numerous nephews and nieces.  

Time permitting, outside of her other interests, she enjoyed travelling. Her many travels included visiting all 50 States, all 30 major league baseball stadiums, numerous minor league baseball stadiums, foreign countries, and RV campgrounds. 

Again, time permitting, she attended St. Leo College while working full time and helping to raise a family.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, mother, and daughter Lori. She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Bobby Lee Mobley; daughter, Jennifer Castro (Patrick); two grandchildren, Chandler Kipp (CJ) of Fort Moore, Columbus, GA, and Addisyn Zabel; two great-grandchildren, Teagan Kipp, and Levi Kipp; sister, Connie Jackson; brother, Michael Young (Laverne); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Mobley, Charles Young, Johnny Jackson, Travis Mobley, Ethan Troha, and CJ Kipp. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mahjong Ladies, Ted and Goldie Fralick, Ed and Mary Hill, and close long-time friend Connie Skipper.

Special thanks to Sandy’s caregivers Ms. Rose Fleming, Ms. Joyce Legare, nurse and close friend Wendy Odum, Saint Joseph/Candler Home Healthcare, nurse Emily Martin and the entire staff of Hospice of South Georgia, and Westside Baptist Church Congregation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lori Mobley Memorial Athletic Training Scholarship, the Jennifer L. Mobley Education Scholarship for Future Teachers, both at Georgia Southern University, or Westside Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home. Sandy’s family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hinesville Cemetery.
