Foxie (Rudolph Jerry) Martin of Riceboro, Ga, passed away on November 24, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends. He was 81 years of age. He was born on March 31, 1943 to Rudolph and Bertha Martin in their family home on East Court Street in Hinesville, Georgia. He lived in Riceboro for the past 57 years.
Foxie was a graduate of Bradwell Institute and Brewton Parker College. He was a long time member and Elder if the Riceboro Presbyterian Church, a Selectman of the Historic Midway Church and a member of the Estate of John Lambert Foundation. He loved to hunt, fish, and RDT (ride, drink, and think) with friends. As a result of his hobbies, he was instrumental in the founding of the New Ground Hunting Club and High Water Yacht Club. He retired from the Georgia National Guard and MATES on Fort Stewart, and was a founding member and Captain of the RBI (Riceboro Bureau of Investigation).
Foxie is preceded in death by his infant son, Jeffrey Martin; his parents, Rudolph and Bertha Martin; his sisters Jackie Shuman (Charles), Ann Bean (Buddy), Mary Lee Zoucks (Charles), and Sara Jane Durrence (Billy). his In-Laws John Frank and Cordella Browning; and his best dog Brantley.
Foxie is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Julie Browning Martin; daughter Della Horne (Mark); son Jonathon Pirkle (RaDonna); Granddaughter Hailey Baxter (Clint); great-grandsons Will and Brycen Baxter; his four-legged baby Sammy; and many nieces and nephews.
Foxie was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger, and to know him was to love him. He was well known for his wit, and there was never any telling what might pop out his mouth; these hilarious words were known as "Foxisms". He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A friend recently made this comment about him: "Fox Martin is the only person I know that when you say his name, everybody smiles!"
The family would like to give thanks to Georgia Hospice Care for their care and conmanship during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at his beloved home at 64 Dog Flea Hill, Riceboro, GA, 31323 on Saturday, November 30, 2024 starting at 3 o'clock p.m. Please Check Apple Maps if directions are needed.
