On Friday, October 22, 2021, Paul McKnight, Sr., loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 81.
Paul was born on August 22, 1940 in Blackton, AR to Cyrus and Winnie (Jenkins) McKnight. Growing up mainly in Texas, he joined the U.S. Army and served six years in Alaska before relocating to Hinesville, GA. He married Melodi Davis on February 19, 1966 and together they raised two children, Sheriese and Paul, Jr.
Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army for two tours and retired from the Georgia National Guard after twenty-three years of service. He also supported his local community by volunteering for the Hinesville Fire Department and being a member of the Hinesville Police Reserve. He retired from Civil Service after thirty-three years of faithful service.
He was a reserved man with a deep voice and a loving heart. He treated everyone with respect and welcomed all into his home. In his younger years, Paul enjoyed racing, but was never very good at it. He then switched to fishing and hunting with marginal improvement. He was a member of his favorite hunting club and the Hawg Hunters Bass Club for a number of years.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Cyrus; mother, Winnie; brother, Chuck; and sister, Lida.
He is survived by his wife, Melodi; daughter, Sheriese Peyton (Chris); son, Paul McKnight (Susan); three grandchildren, Kyle Peyton (Amber), Mia McKnight, and Braden McKnight; two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Landon Peyton; and his older brother, Silas Viscon McKnight of Plano, TX.
Graveside services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2021 in Oglethorpe Memorial Park Cemetery in Hinesville, GA.
