On Monday, December 26th, 2022, Jean Marie Cuson, beloved mother of Kelly, Devin, and Jeremy, grandmother of Ashley, Paige, Devin, Chloe, and Ryan, passed away. She was eighty-one. She survived her beloved husband of over fifty years, Robert Terry. Graduating from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in education, she alternated between teaching and counseling for over twenty-five years.
During retirement, Jean focused on her passion for design. Ever the perfectionist, she relentlessly redecorated her home and enlisted her husband as her contractor-in-chief. Others took note and eventually she was decorating their homes too. Her work is, perhaps, best described as eclectic, often combining elements from styles such as New American, Art Deco, and traditional country.
An avid reader, Jean could often be found lost in a book with her faithful feline friend, Puddy, curled up nearby. She was particularly fond of presidential biographies, Pat Conroy, and John Grisham. When reading did not satisfy, she was also a dedicated cruciverbalist regularly completing the New York Times’ crossword. A trait she passed on to her children.
To those who knew her well, she possessed simultaneously a razor-sharp wit and a deep sense of compassion. Always an excellent listener, fierce defender, kind, and gentle, she personified these qualities within her family, friends, students, and profession. She will be forever missed.
