James Ancrum Getty, Jr., 82, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a short illness, lovingly surrounded by his family.
James was a general contractor in the Richmond Hill, Hinesville and Savannah area for over 40 years. He was the owner of Getty Construction and founding partner in Southern Jewell. He loved helping families build their dream homes, and young entrepreneurs with their businesses in the field.
Early on, James was in the 230th Armored Field Artillery Battalion of the National Guard Armory, Savannah, GA at Fort Sill, OK. He rose to Staff Sergeant in the US Army by completing artillery Radio Maintenance and the artillery communications supervisors’ courses.
James is the son of the late James Ancrum Getty, Sr. and Nora Sanders Getty. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Getty (Bill Lucas); granddaughter, Jewell Madison Getty-Lucas; sister, Lois Getty Hearn (Johnny); niece, Larissa H. Bell, and Lani; nephew, J. Duane Hearn, Jakob and Jeremiah; and extended family, Elma Getty Stephenson (Al), Jena Reddick, Jaxen Ryals, Mariah Reddick, Harrison, Garrett and Adalyn Lucas, Jobie Seward and Tim Earl.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
