Greg was born on April 6, 1967 in Philadelphia, PA to John D. and Joan I. Spellman. Greg was born with Downs Syndrome and was a happy child brightening the lives of all he met. He overcame many obstacles in his life and was an athlete, excelling in basketball and swimming. He participated in the Pennsylvania State Olympics winning Gold Medals. He was a member of Ambucs Bowling Team and learned to ski and ice skate.
Greg was an acolyte at All Saints Church in Norristown, PA, where he proudly carried the cross for Fr. Coble and he moved to Richmond Hill and attended St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. In 1987, he moved to Georgia with his parents and attended Sol Johnson High School where he graduated with his Special Ed Class in 1988.
Greg was one of the rare people with his condition affected by puberty, at 16 he started to regress, he stopped speaking and withdrew and mentally went back to two years old. Slowly improving enough that he was able to enjoy life again but never regained his old abilities.
Twice he flew with his parents to England to be with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Spellman.
Greg is survived by his mother, Joan I. Spellman; several aunts, uncles and cousins in the UK; one special cousin, Stephanie Craft; and two other cousins in the US.
