George Earl Ginter

February 19, 1931 — December 30, 2021

George Earl Ginter, 90, of Sunbury, GA passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 30, 2021 surrounded by family.

Born on February 19, 1931 to Fred L. and Hattie S. Ginter of Hinesville, GA. George was raised in Hinesville where he met the love of his life, Martha Sue in elementary school. He attended high school at Bradwell Institute and was in the graduating class of 1950. He was a lifelong member of the Coastal Empire Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout and Bronze Palm award in 1946, Gold and Silver Palm in 1947, and Wood Badge in 1962. Over the years he served in numerous volunteer positions, including Scout Master, Explorer Post Advisor, District Committee Member, and Council Commissioner in the Coastal Empire and internationally in Panama, Korea, Japan, and Holland. After retiring as a CW2 from more than 24 years in the US Military with service in Korea and Vietnam he taught at Bradwell Institute for several years before he worked for Liberty County as the Building Inspector and then Maintenance Manager.  

George entered the Mason’s in 1966 and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on May 16, 1966. He became an Emeritus Mason on December 6, 1977 and was awarded his fifty-year apron and pin on May 06, 2021.

He received numerous awards and tributes from civic organizations for his service to mankind.  In addition to scouting, George enjoyed wood carving, fishing, and his fellowship with the Midway Methodist Church Men’s Group and Happy Hearts Club.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Martha Sue Ginter; two daughters, Beverly (George) Waters and Lu Anne (Ronnie) Smith; five grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; two siblings; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM under the remaining brick arches of the Stephens’ plantation along the Medway River.
