SFC Gary A. Gasper, Sr. (United States Army, retired), 78, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at home surrounded by his family after a short illness. Gary was born in Marion, IN and lived in Richmond Hill for the past 10 years.  He was a 1958 graduate of Marion High School. He retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving for 23 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran and loved his country. He loved his wife. He enjoyed golfing and had a passion for other sports where he officiated and coached youth. As in everything he did in his life, he did it his way and he will be missed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sharan Gasper; daughter, Donna Marie Gasper; brother, Jackie Gasper; and sister, Karen Herschbach. He is survived by his children, Terry Gasper of Monmouth, OR; Gary Gasper, Jr. (Alicia) of Vidalia; Sherri Howard (Terry “Rat”) of Richmond Hill; and Christina Cheaves (George) of Midway; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Bright (Tom) of Marion, IN; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Joan Tobin. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Suites at Station Exchange, the staff at Hospice of Georgia and his 2 special doctors, Dr. Bannout and Dr. Eskandar.
