Evelyn L. Howard, 84, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, surrounded by family. Evelyn was born July 7, 1935, in Denver, Colorado, to Joseph King Davis and Mary Carter Davis.
In 1951, she married William J. Howard. They embarked on a military expedition around the world and Evelyn raised their five children. In the early 60’s, they lived for four years on Yokota Air Base in Japan where Evelyn served as Den Mother to Boy Scouts Pack 42. In 1963, the family moved to Hampton, VA, and in 1966, Evelyn became an instructor at Peninsula Vocational Training Center at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Regional Center. She was the sole member of the Peninsula Association for Special Needs PTA Research Committee.
Family and friends were Evelyn’s passion and delight. She spent summers traveling to Colorado and Michigan to visit her relatives. She loved to entertain and frequently hosted Tupperware and Home Décor parties in her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Howard, Sr.; parents, Joseph and Mary Davis; siblings, Leslie Davis, Joe Davis, and Zeita Moman; granddaughter-in-law, Makeba M. Howard, and great-grandson, Khalil J. Howard.
She is survived by two sons, William J. Howard, Jr. of Gloucester, VA, and Larry Howard of Hampton, VA; three daughters, Denise Howard of Antioch, TN, Rhoda Howard of Hinesville, and Mary Frances Howard of Hinesville; eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in Hampton/Newport News, Virginia.
