Dr. Kathleen Ann Leaver

Dr. Kathleen Ann Leaver, 59, of Hinesville, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Kathy was born in Oshkosh, WI on September 4, 1962. She met her husband, David, through American Field Service (AFS) in England on Friday, August 13, 1982 and they married on March 22, 1986 in Oshkosh. She worked at St. Coletta’s in Jefferson, WI as a Speech Pathologist. In 1997, Kathy and David moved to Cincinnati where she became a District Staffing Specialist for Hamilton County, OH. Upon relocating to Georgia in 2002, Kathy worked in Savannah, next becoming a Special Education Director in Hinesville. She was dedicated to her responsibilities, securing her Doctorate in Education Administration in 2012. She was an effective, well-regarded servant for the Liberty County School District from 2012 until her retirement in 2020.

Kathy bravely contested her 2017 diagnosis of Stage 4 chronic kidney disease, before receiving a kidney transplant in 2019. Sadly, the transplant could not secure Kathy neither a substantially longer time with us, nor the quality of life she had formerly enjoyed. In her last years, she enjoyed visiting with her mother, watching TV, and reading and playing games on her Kindle. Kathy and her husband traveled extensively while she was in good health and she loved to visit with her English and American families.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ron Day.

Kathy is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, Dr. John David Leaver; and her mother, Alice Day.

Memorial services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Kathy’s family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
