Clara Mae Anderson, 94, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
Clara was born in St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies on April 10, 1926. She migrated to Birmingham, England in 1961 where she attended Cosmetology School. In 1964 she married Robert Anderson and moved from England to Long Island, New York where she worked as a nurse. In 1982 she and her husband moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where they resided until relocating to Richmond Hill four years ago to be closer to family. She was a member of Emmanuel Christian Church in Richmond Hill. Weekly she visited Bryan County Health and Rehab to fellowship with the seniors. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Idiana and Alfred Parris; two sisters, Lucille Kelly and Daisy Parris; and two daughters, Sylvia Bennett and Beverly Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Pastor Robert Anderson; two sons, Owen Wright and Winston Anderson; two daughters, Madge Reno and Yvonne Stevenson; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several other family and church members.
A private family viewing will be from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Daniel E. Boyd, officiating. The family invites everyone to watch the service live via Facebook www.facebook.com/cfhbchapel2.
