Charlie Conger

June 23, 2000 — April 5, 2021

We sadly announce the passing of Charlie Weldon Joe Conger.  Charlie was the person who would light up a room with his big smile and laughter.  He was known to his friends as Pig Pen, Uncle Fester, and Cogsworth and loved being a big goofball with a dopey smile.  Charlie was a people person who never knew a stranger and always went out of his way to help anyone, not just his family and friends.  He truly felt the pain of others and made it a point to lighten their load by carrying their burdens with them.  Though Charlie suffered more in his lifetime than any young man his age should have to, he leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength for us to follow.

Charlie was born in Mesquite, Texas and later moved with his family to Ft. Stewart, Georgia. Throughout his childhood, Charlie was an active participant in the Royal Rangers, Sunday School and VBS programs at his churches and later was an active participant in the Roots Student Ministries at Victory Assembly of God. In 2017 and 2018, Charlie spent a portion of his summer doing overseas missions in the Middle East. Charlie graduated from Liberty County High School in 2018, where he was heavily involved in the band and drama clubs. He was a talented musician and vocalist. Charlie went on to become an engineering student at Georgia Southern University, where he is a proud member of the Southern Pride Marching Band, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Baptist Collegiate Ministries and Chi Alpha campus ministries and he attended Thrive Church.

Charlie is preceded in death by his dad, Robert Lyn Conger. He is survived by his mom, Melanie McMinn and step-father, Jason McMinn; brother, Andrew Conger; and sister, Dulce Conger. He is also survived by many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a multitude of friends who love him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 5 p.m at Connection Church in Hinesville, Georgia, 116 Patriot Trail. A visitation with the family will precede the service between 2 and 4 p.m. Livestreaming will be available for anyone unable to attend in person (Connection Church Hinesville on YouTube).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to Georgia Southern University Foundation for Mental Health Support, PO Box 1107, Statesboro, GA 30459 or online at georgiasouthern.edu/give.
