Charles James Young Sr. “Charlie”, age 90, a proud Veteran; passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home in Wilmington, DE.

Charlie was born to Sidney & Edith (Stahl) Young May 20, 1934, in Lakemont, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Huntingdon, PA. While still a Junior in High School, he joined the US Navy Reserves in Altoona PA, during the Korean War.

Charles was always destined to be a Soldier and felt it was a great honor to serve God and his Country. In 1953, he joined the US Army and served nine years Active Duty. Afterwards, Charles served in the US Army Reserve as well as the Maryland Army National Guard. He retired as a Platoon Sergeant, with over 23 years of service, and the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7).

He then started working for the US Army at APG, MD as a Civil Servant for the Tank and Automotive Command. During his tenure with the Civil Service, he was stationed many places across the US and in South Korea. He retired in Fort Stewart, GA in 1995, after 30 years of service to his country.

Charles was married to his loving wife Myong Suk for 32 years whom he met in South Korea while working for the US Army Civil Service. He instantly fell in love with her and Suk’s family. They traveled back and forth from South Korea and the USA with his Civil Service positions. Finally settling in Hinesville, GA, where he and his wife were active members of the Hinesville Methodist Church.

Charles loved and took sincere interest in all his family. He taught them about the Young family history and his proud Irish heritage. He always made time to visit and talk to his family members across the US and around the world. He was a very respected member of the Hinesville, GA Community. Most mornings he enjoyed gathering for breakfast with the Old Farts Club. Charles was a Lifetime member, and very active two-time Commander of VFW Post 6602, as well as their Chaplin. He presented numerous awards and scholarships to the area's JROTC students. As Chaplin, he was active in the Warriors Walk Tree Planting ceremony honoring fallen soldiers at Fort Stewart. He traveled to support Veterans in the local VA hospital as a member of Post 6602 Cooties. Charles was a lifetime active member of the American Legion Post 168 and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his dearest wife Myong Suk Young; sister Mildred Klinger (Clair) and brother Donald Young (Sixta). He is survived by his loving brother Robert Young and Brother In Laws Yi Mong Su (Sun He) & Yi Won Sok (Suk Ja); his adoring sons and daughter, Charles Young Jr. (Ki), Jeni Brendle (Brian), David Young (Linda), William Young (Bonnie), his 14 cherished Grandchildren, his 11 wonderful Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in the States and South Korea.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville, GA. Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, March 31, at the Hinesville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hinesville United Methodist Church.
