Charles William Carroll, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 surrounded by his children after a valiant fight against cancer, Alzheimer's, and dementia.
Bill was born March 30, 1943 in Johnson City, Tennessee to Frank and Pauline Carroll. He came from a large family of sixteen brothers and sisters of whom he was always very proud. Bill joined the Marine Corps at the age of seventeen where he spent his first three years in service of his country, later joining the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant. He was a two-time veteran of the Vietnam war, recalling stories of this time in his life from the time he came home until the end of his fight with Alzheimer's and dementia. He received multiple recognitions, medals, and honors, including The National Defense Service Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, five good conduct medals, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for displaying heroic conduct.
Bill was known for sharing stories of war, glory, and family. He liked to share his knowledge on the best coupons to save money at the grocery store with anyone who would listen and even those who didn't want to. He enjoyed walking around town in Hinesville where he retired in 1981, never meeting a stranger. He also enjoyed fishing with his children, grandchildren, and nephews, enjoying a good burger, or trying to win big on scratch-off tickets. He was quick with a joke, even if it was the same one he had told you 1000 times. He always loved to make people laugh. He is loved a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck and will be missed dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Sue Carroll; mother, Pauline Carroll; father, Frank Carroll; brother, Glen Dubbie Duncan; two sisters, Sharon Howell and Sarah Swanner; and most recently by his brother, Frank Carroll who died seventeen minutes before him on June 17, 2021.
He is survived by his five children, Iris Trinidad (Ed Trinidad), Janet Carroll Delk (Tim Guyre), Amanda Carroll, Charles "CD" Carroll (Daisy Carroll), and Liv Carroll; grandchildren, Michael Carroll, Joshua Sibert, Dustin Turner, Daniel Delk, Dalton Delk, Cheyenne Carroll, Cassie Carroll, Joshua Trinidad, Steven Mashburn, Jonathan Hatt, and Andrew Lyons; siblings, Iris, Ray, Wanda, Fred, James, DeRhonda, Betty, Linda Jo, John, and Carol; and by a host of nieces and nephews.
