Brenda Gail Smithey

Brenda Gail Smithey, 59, declared departed from our world on January 13, 2025 at her home in Savannah, Georgia. She was born in Durant, Oklahoma on November 09, 1965 to Mark Onis & Lillian Ruth Smithey. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Mark Onis Smithey, her step father, Clifford Hibdon, and several other family members.

She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth (Josh) Dunaway of Midway, GA; Russell Cain of Ludowici, GA; her ex-husband, Richard Cain of Ludowici; sister MaryBeth Daniel of Mead, Oklahoma; mother Lillian Ruth (Merl) White of Madill, Oklahoma; and her granddaughters, Leilah Nicole Mitcham and Lana Pearl Lewis.

Brenda enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids, reading numerous books, and traveling. 

She was a school bus driver for many years with the Liberty County and then Long County School System. Once her children were older, she moved on to driving dump trucks and then onto trolleys. She more recently was a trolley tour guide with Old Savannah Tours, Kelly Tours, and Oglethorpe Tours in Savannah, GA. She had a love for history and had a knack for bringing it to life through her gift of storytelling. It’s been said she’s the best trolley tour guide in the Savannah area! 

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 16th 2025 at Carter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends starting at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services will be following at 7 p.m.
