Betty Jacquelyn “Jackie” Shuman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the age of 87. Born on June 19, 1936 to Rudolph and Bertha Martin, Jackie spent most of her life in her home town of Hinesville, Georgia, where she met her husband of 67 years, Charles Shuman.
Jackie was a graduate of Bradwell Institute. She was also a long time member of the Hinesville First United Methodist Church, the Bertha Martin Women’s Circle, and the Ollie Darsey Sunday School Class. Jackie loved serving others, spending many years working for the Liberty County Recreation Department with her husband, where they would impact the lives of many people in more ways than they could ever imagine. She was an avid golfer, with quite a few accomplishments to show for it, including multiple hole-in-ones and many club championships at her home course of Cherokee Rose. Jackie loved to fish, especially with her friends and family, often times showing everyone else around just how it was done. She enjoyed travelling, going to new and exciting places and experiencing the wonders that the world had to offer. But the thing she loved most was simply spending time with her family, all of whom she loved dearly.
Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles; parents, Rudolph and Bertha Martin; and her sisters, Ann Martin Bean, Mary Lee Zoucks, and Sara Jane Durrence Eskew.
Jackie is survived by her son, Jack Shuman (Mary) of Hinesville; grandson, Joshua Shuman (Lauren) of Hinesville; granddaughters, Andrea Burnham (Nathan) of Decatur and Melissa Green (Troy) of Hinesville; brother, Jerry “Fox” Martin (Julie) of Riceboro; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who will all carry her cherished memory in their hearts forever.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Hinesville First United Methodist Church. Burial will immediately follow in Hinesville Cemetery.
