Charles David Phillips

November 10, 1931 — January 7, 2013

Fleming Charles David Phillips, Sr., 81, died Monday, January 7, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He lived in Fleming all his life and graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1957. He is a life time member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Mens Group, enjoyed playing music for all the area nursing homes, was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Brenda Clark Phillips; his children, Brendette Phillips Miles and John of Lilesville, NC, Linda Phillips Parks and Glenn of Shreveport, LA, Charles David Phillips, Jr. and Cynthia of Riceboro and Fred Emory Phillips and Sherri of Midway; brother, Walter Herman Phillips, Sr. of Kibbie, GA; brother in-law, Emory S. Clark of Savannah; sister in-law, Ernestine Phillips of Fleming; grandchildren, Hope Miles Shaver and Michael, Faith Miles Faircloth and Brad, Charles Clinton Floyd, Kylie Ann Phillips; great grandchildren, Mick Shaver, Racheal Shaver, Lee Shaver and Amy Faircloth; Step grandchildren, Justin Flowers, Austin Flowers, Adam Tomlinson; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ricky Rushing, Rev. John Ryan, and Chaplain Steven Lee officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Emory Phillips, Jr, Philip McCallar, Louis Smith, Michael Coley, Tommy Beasley, and Alan Proman. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Browning, Charles Smith, Class of 1956-1957 of the Bradwell Institute, Lenard Crosby, Willie Smith, Thomas Walthour, Mt. Olivet United Methodist Mens Group, Jimmy Heard, Robert Phillips, DeWayne Phillips, Gary Phillips, Ellis Phillips, Ricky Phillips, Alton Phillips, Lenard Beasley, John Gill, Lawrence Beasley, and Jimmy Beasley.
