Hinesville Joseph A. Matthews, 75, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. He was a native of West Virginia and lived in Hinesville for the past 11 years. He served as an AP in the US Air Force. He graduated from Nitro High School in 1955. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and AG Overmans Sunday School Class. He was a truck driver for 25 plus years working for Monsanto and Mason Dixon before retiring from DuPont Chemical Company. He is predeceased by his wife of 55 years Juanita "Sis" Matthews and son Joseph "Marc" Matthews. Survived by his brothers, Ronnie Matthews of Winfield, WV and Harold and Charlotte Matthews of Nitro, WV.; sister Sharon Matthews of Nitro, WV.; daughter-in-law Mi Suk Matthews of Hinesville; grandchildren Ashley (Carlos) Matias of Hinesville and William (Taryn) Matthews of Salt Lake City, Utah; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-7p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Hinesville First United Methodist with a 1:00 p.m. burial at Georgia Veterans Memorial Park in Glennville with Military Honors. Rev. Dr. Rich Wright will be officiating.
