Gloris Zorn Hughes

May 22, 1933 — December 20, 2013

Gloris Zorn Hughes, 80, died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah following a long illness. She was born in May of 1933 to Fulton Zorn and Ruth Howard Zorn, one of the founding families of Gum Branch. One of six children, she had deep roots in the area. With a quick wit and easy smile, she could tell you how we were related to so and so. She is mother to Jeanie Lee of Hinesville, the late Julie Lee of Hinesville, Johnny Hughes of Texas, Randy Hughes of Hinesville, Lori Hughes Estrada of California, and Sam Hughes Pagitt of Washington. She is survived by sister Naomi Z. Hawthorne of Darien. She was predeceased by Archie Zorn of Gum Branch, Louie Zorn of Savannah, Hugh Zorn of Hortense, and Kendall Zorn of Darien. She had 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was a wonderful, loving woman who would gladly give you her last dollar if you needed it. She enjoyed her family very much and liked to have them to visit. She enjoyed being home, living a simple life. She enjoyed spending her days on the porch reading. She liked listening to the wind in the trees, the birds chirping above and the squirrels talking to one another. She and her son, Randy, lived on their property on Highway 196 in Gum Branch since 1991. We have lost so much with her passing. Despite the hole in our hearts, we feel her presence and are at peace when we go home. She will be greatly missed by many. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 27, 2013, at 2 pm at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel with Reverend Bobby Brinkley officiating.
