Walthourville, GA Mrs. Lyndol H. Anderson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 7th, 2014. Lyndol, the daughter of John G. and Wilma Deloach Helmuth, was born July 29th, 1922, in Bulloch County, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Hollis Anderson; brothers, Derene Helmuth, Deloach Helmuth, Wallace Helmuth, and Sammy Helmuth; and son-in-law, Jim Fletcher. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson started their family in rural Evans County on a small farm before moving to Walthourville and building a home with an adjoining general store and gas station, Anderson's Corner Market. Mrs. Anderson worked tirelessly in the store and was quick to help those in need. Always driven to achieve whatever goals she set, Lyndol successfully established the first all-female city government in the United States when she incorporated the city of Walthourville in 1974. This accomplishment made national TV news with Walter Cronkite & Chet Brinkley, as well as radio commentator Paul Harvey. Mrs. Anderson had a great love of flowers and plants and at age 73 became a Master Gardener. She enjoyed working at the Bamboo Farm and LeConte-Woodmanston Rice Plantation. One of the things she missed in recent years was her ability to take her daily 3 to 5 mile walk. She is survived by her sister Ida Frances Anderson; two daughters, Melinda Anderson of Hinesville (George Kirylo) and Deborah Ashe of Evans, GA (Rob); grandchildren, Billy Anderson (Teinka Luster), Bobby Anderson (Rhonda), Clay Johnson (Treena), Hollis Hill (Sean), and Christopher Anderson Ashe; eight great-grandchildren, Savannah, Clayton and Wesley Johnson, India Hill and Sean Kelly Hill, Onasea Lynch, and Araya and Meadow Anderson, and a multitude of "bonus children," as she called them, of all ages. This was evidenced by the many cards, letters, pictures and other remembrances she received all through the years. She loved everyone, was always eager and willing to help anyone in need, and she was dearly loved by all. Visitation will be 11 am-1 pm on Wednesday, June 11, at Carter Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 1pm in the chapel. Burial will be in Hinesville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Anderson, Bobby Anderson, Clay Johnson, Christopher Ashe, Paul Klimowicz, and Collie Wilkes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Martin, Butler Whitfield, Kelsey Busby, Molene Burke, Ardithe Herbert, Charles Smith, Greg Herbert, Bud Thomas, Allen Hall, Greg Hewitt, J. Noel Osteen, Mark McGarry, Harold Woods, Mayor Daisy Pray, Past Mayor Carrie Kent, Past Mayor Henry Frasier, Sr., and all current and former members of the Walthourville City Council Remembrances may be made to the Walthourville Baptist Church, P.O. Box B, Walthourville, GA 31333.
