Roscoe Francis Wells, Sr.

June 6, 1920 — July 8, 2014

Roscoe F. Wells Sr., 94, of Hinesville, passed away peacefully at Liberty Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, July 8th. Roscoe was the son of William and Jincy Wells of Ludowici, deceased. Roscoe served in many roles during his life and dedicated himself to each one. He was an Army veteran of WWII and later served in the Air Force during the Korean War as well as the Viet Nam War before retiring after 21 years of service. He received multiple awards and medals during his times of service. Roscoe served as a deacon and bible teacher at Gum Branch Baptist Church before retiring to emeritus status. He also served as a past master of Au-Salde Lodge #243 in Oscoda, MI. Roscoe was the first county commissioner of District 3, encompassing Gum Branch and Walthourville in Liberty County, GA. His was a life well lived, in which he served his Lord, his country and his family with honor. He was preceded in death by 4 daughters, Wilma Wells, Barbara Wells, Audrey Carter and Joyce Bennett, as well as son, Douglas Wells, grandson Robbie Carter, brothers, Carroll, Monroe, Jay, Archie, Grady Wells and sisters, Florence Wells and Minnie Mobley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose; daughters, Elaine (Gary) Walker and Carla (Mickey) Bell, and sons, Roscoe Jr. (Tammy), Roger (Kay) and John Wells, all of Hinesville; one sister, Mary Riggs of Tennessee; 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, July 11th, at Gum Branch Baptist Church at 10:00 with services following at 11:00, with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Burial services will follow immediately at the church cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be made to the Gum Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 8590 Hwy. 196W, Hinesville, GA 31313.
