BarJean (BJ) Phillips, 57, of Savannah, Georgia passed away from complications following an accident on Friday, July 11, 2014 in hospice care surrounded by her family. BarJean was born on July 7, 1957 in Pocatello, Idaho to William and Carol Phillips. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1975 with honors. She attended Idaho State University (ISU) and graduated with an Associate of Technology in Drafting/Design Technologist. She worked as a Draftsman at the Idaho National Laboratory. Then continued her education at ISU and graduated with a B.S. in Engineering, a B.S. in Chemistry with honors, a M.S. in Engineering, a M.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D in Engineering and Applied Science. She taught as a visiting professor at ISU for a year before moving to Savannah to teach chemistry and physics at Savannah Technical College. BJ enjoyed swimming, playing softball, golfing, bowling and watching pro football. She was a member of the Pocatello swimming club and competed in meets where she won many medals. She played softball in city leagues with her mother and sister. The softball teams competed in tournaments and won on numerous occasions. BJ started bowling in high school and continued with women league play throughout her lifetime. She competed in tournaments at the City, State, and National levels. For a few years she had one of the top five highest averages in Pocatello and qualified to be a member of the High 5 Team that represented the Pocatello Women's Bowling Association at the Idaho State Tournament. She earned membership into the Idaho Gutter Gussie Association. She served for many years as an officer in the Women's Pocatello Bowling Association. BarJean was inducted into Pocatello Association Bowling Hall of Fame in 2003. BarJean is survived by her partner, Launa Lynch of Savannah, her parents, William (Bill) and Carol (Chris) Phillips of Pocatello, a brother, Sheldon Barton (Bart) Phillips of Pocatello, a sister, Bonita Phillips (Cynda) of Blackfoot, ID and her beloved pets, Alex and Ozzie. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer and Gertrude Christiansen of Pocatello and Morgan and Mae Sena Phillips of Inkom, ID. The family would like to thank the amazing physicians who cared for BJ and the Neurology ICU nurses at Memorial Health University Medical Center for their exceptional care. And special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Savannah Hospice for all of their kindness and support at this difficult time. Memorial gatherings for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 25 at 2 to 4 pm at Carter's Funeral Home, 10512 Ford Ave, Richmond Hill, GA and on, August 7 from 4-7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, Pocatello, ID.
