Hinesville SFC Calvin L. Poole (US Army, retired), 67, passed away Wednesday at his residence with his wife by his side. A native of Pascagoula (Jackson County), Mississippi, he was a resident of Hinesville for 30 years, remaining here upon his retirement from the United States Army after 21 years of service. He later worked as a contractor on Fort Stewart after his retirement. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two tours of duty, and loved his country. "Calvin was always good, unselfish and kind. Few on this earth his equal we find." He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin (Boots) and Anna Augusta Poole, and his brother Roy Poole. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Linda Poole; son, Kevin Poole (Monika) of Midway; daughters, Sherry Henry (Jeff) of Moss Point, MS, and Melissa Poole of Hinesville; two grandchildren, Sarah Poole and Candace Poole; four brothers, Buck, Tuny, Ebb, and Gerald; three sisters, Lydia, Nelda and Anna, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 11am Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home with Rev, David Harn officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. Pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Army Emergency Relief Fund, 191 Lindquist Road, Building #86, Fort Stewart, GA 31314-0000.
