Alsennia Hodges Manous, 90, died Sunday at Candler Hospital in Savannah after a long illness and under the care of Hospice Advantage. A native of Turbeville, SC, she was a resident of Liberty County for over 50 years. She was retired from civil service at Fort Stewart, owned and operated a mobile home rental park in Gum Branch since 1975, and owned and managed the Video Hut of Gum Branch for many years. Ms Alsennia served as Mayor of Gum Branch for one term and on the Gum Branch City Council for several terms. She was a member of Poplar Head Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husbands, SFC John Theodore Hodges (US Army, retired) and SGT Lee Manous (US Army, retired); daughter, Evelyn Hodges; and son, John T. Hodges, Jr. She is survived by her grandchildren, Evelyn Alsennia and Richard Strickland of Gum Branch, Marlette and Michael Rogers of Glen Burnie, MD, Rachael and Allen Green of Jesup, and Arley Mobley of Gum Branch; many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, and at other times at Ms Alsennia's home in Gum Branch. Funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday at Poplar Head Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Head Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jesse Strickland, Shawn Strickland, Randy Cochran, J. Koty Busler, Dillon Busler, and Ryan Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Mellette, US Marine CPL Brandon Busler, and members of Poplar Head Baptist Church. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
