Hinesville SFC Louis Edward "Ed" Robinson, Jr (US Army, Ret.), 74, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in 1940 in Savannah, he was educated in the Savannah Public Schools. He joined the Army National Guard in 1958, and, in 1963, he joined the United States Army. Mr. Robinson was a Vietnam War Veteran, having served three tours of duty, and earning a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He retired in 1982 with 20 years of service. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1996. He had lived in Hinesville since 1978. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis Edward and Stella C. Robinson, and a sister, Claire Casey. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Lynn Robinson (Ricky Blanton) of Jesup, Kimberly Sills (Derek) of Midway, Catherine R. Smiley of Flemington, and their mother, Xuan Bui of Richmond Hill; a sister, Beth Elmgren (Fred) of Savannah; six grandchildren, Brittany Burriss, Cassidy Burriss, Zachary Burriss, Madeline Smiley, Kailey Brough, and Gage Sills; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday in the chapel at Carter Funeral Home with Deacon Chad Chaffee officiating and burial will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, with Full Military Honors.
