SFC Robin B. Franks (US ARMY, ret.), 48, of Hinesville, is at peace with God after being shot and killed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 14, 2014. Robin was born in Americus, Georgia, to E.J. and Eva Grace Franks, on February 4, 1966. He served two years in the Georgia National Guard before joining the Army. Retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service, he was a veteran of the Iraq War and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (6th Award) USA/USAF Presidential Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Star, Overseas Service Ribbon-Kuwait, and Overseas Service Ribbon-Saudi Arabia. He was was working for the US Government under contract with Vinnell Arabia at the time of his death. Robin was passionate about baseball and softball. He played baseball as a child and played softball on teams all over the country for all of his adult life. He coached "Rec" ball and the Fort Sam Houston Rangers. He was a member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Robin loved his family and friends, was known for his kindness and humor, and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Franks. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Tammy Easton Franks; daughters, Samantha Lake (and husband, David), Ryan Elizabeth Malick, and Hayley Franks; sister, Linda Franks Boothe (and husband, John); brother, Michael Franks (and wife, Debbie); sisters-in-law, Sherry Franks, Dora Gracey (and husband, Tom); mother- and father-in-law, Sonny and Nell Easton; one grandchild, Ryder Easton Lake; nine nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and -nephews. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 12 noon on Saturday, November 8, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel at 12:30 p.m., with Reverend Ben Beasley and Dr. Robert Lake officiating. Full Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army Honor Guard from Fort Stewart, Georgia.
