Hinesville R. Kenneth (Ken) Smiley, Jr., 67, died suddenly Tuesday at Liberty Regional Medical Center. Born in Jesup, he was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. He was a member of Hinesville First United Methodist Church and a 1965 graduate of Bradwell Institute. Ken was a graduate of Brewton Parker College and served in the Georgia National Guard. He was an insurance agent in Hinesville for many years and also worked for Coastal Outdoor & Marine. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Angie Clark Smiley of Hinesville; one son, R. Kenneth (Kenny) Smiley, III, (Teri) of Monroe, GA; one daughter, Alison Smiley Hugli (Bryan) of Statesboro, GA; mother, Louise K. Goodson (Claude) of Sunbury; sister, Patricia Graddy (Len) of Bluff Creek; brother, Jeff Smiley (Sharon) of Tifton; four grandchildren, R.K. Hugli, Meagan Maughon (Cody), Taylor Wommack (Lindsay), and Brantley Wommack; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hinesville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Thornton and Rev. Bobby Brinkley officiating. Burial will be in Hinesville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lamar Carter, Ricky Dykes, Elmo Fields, Bo Hearn, John Rogers, Joe Underwood, and Larry Whitman. Remembrances may be made to the Relay for Life of Liberty County (American Cancer Society, Attn: Relay for Life of Liberty County, 3011 Hampton Ave, Suite 361, Brunswick, GA 31520) or the American Heart Association (Attn: Hinesville/Savannah Area, 1101 Northchase Pkwy, Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067).
