Shellman Bluff M. F. Futch, Jr., 85, departed this life Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Liberty Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Ludowici before moving to Shellman Bluff. He was a member of the Jones Creek Baptist Church in Ludowici and a 1946 graduate of Ludowici High School. He was employed by the Georgia Forestry Commission as a Forest Ranger of Long, Liberty, and South Bryan counties before retiring with 34 years of service. M.F. was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed competing in field trials and raising hound dogs for deer hunting. He was a charter member of Bull Town Hunting Club and served as president for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, M. F., Sr., and Sarah Futch; brothers, Jack, Tommy, and Harry Futch; sister, Eloise Dasher; son, Jed Lewis; and granddaughter, Valerie Futch. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jennie Long Futch; son, Mike Futch (Julia); daughters, Marcia Futch, Betty Baxter (Revis) of Ludowici, Connie Moore (Curt) of Wayne County, and Janet Lyle (Mike) of Sunbury; daughter-in-law, Debbie Lee (Brad) of Shellman Bluff; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; brother, Edd Futch (Sybil) of Glennville; sisters, Louise Sikes (Billy) of Glennville and Frances Chambless of Ludowici; sisters-in-law, Wanda Futch, Glenda Futch, and Wanda B. Futch; and an aunt, Evelyn Dunham. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. His funeral service will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Creek Baptist Church with the Reverends Robert Long and Bob Briley officiating. Burial will follow at Jones Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Carl Futch, Phil Futch, David Futch, Daryl Futch, Ricky Chambless, Royce Chambless and Clinton Dasher.
