William Howard Shoup, 63, of Hinesville, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at home under the care of Heartland Hospice. Born in Chicago, he was a resident of Hinesville for 28 years. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam War veteran and former Prisoner of War. He was an auto mechanic by trade and a retired civil servant from the auto shop on Fort Stewart. He was a member of American Legion Post #168 and attended Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Gum Branch. He was preceded in death by sons, Dave and Bob Shoup; parents, Stella and Frank Shoup; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and George Petroski; one step-grandson and two step-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jane Shoup of Hinesville; two brothers, John Shoup (Mary) and Frank Shoup (Char); two stepsons, Dwayne Brady and Robert Brady (Carol); two stepdaughters, Cindy Maxwell (Roger) and Karen Jeffers (Jerry); seven step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service, with military honors, will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, in the chapel at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service. Rev. Tommy Hamilton will officiate. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
