Rene L. Vandendries, 72, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. A native of the Netherlands, he lived in Midway for the past 15 years where he was the owner and operator of The Cedar Tree Restaurant along with his wife, Donna. He was a member of Victory Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed cooking and playing golf. He loved all animals, especially his prized African grey parrot, Gracie. His is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna Vandendries of Midway; sons, Shawn and Michael Vandendries; daughter, Danielle Price; sons, Bill, Ray, Dean, Teddy, Chad and Scott Schwartz; daughters, Tina Farmer, Tracy and Donna Schwartz, and Denise Moesta; one sister, Marlo Vandendries; twenty grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Visitation will be 5-6 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Doug Harn officiating.
