Hinesville Lucille Davis Harvey was born to the late Bernice and James Davis in Brooklyn, NY on February 24, 1952. "Cille"-as she was affectionately called by many- had three children whom she nurtured and loved dearly. She was very family-oriented and protective of them. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Harvey attended Midwood High School and went on to attend Brooklyn College. While in New York, where she lived in both Brooklyn and Queens, Lucille worked for the telephone company for many years. She also worked at NBTY. Tiring of the New York weather, in 1986 she gravitated south for the warmer climate of Georgia where she resided for almost thirty years. Lucille always made sure she was gainfully employed over the years and worked at many well-known establishments, namely Chick-fil-A, Sears, Roger Wood, Staples, International Greeting Company and lastly, Home Depot. Lucille played as hard as she worked and enjoyed life. In a parade representing Roger Wood, she playfully portrayed a ketchup bottle and did an excellent job! Although she didn't take many pictures over the years, almost successfully carrying on the sibling tradition of never posing or taking photos, she was captured very well that day smiling and proudly sporting her ketchup garb, a condiment she knew many in the family adored!! Her hobbies and interests included reading, raising and constantly doting on her grandchildren, attending her meetings at the Kingdom Hall and traveling to the annual convention every year, and watching one of her favorite shows, "The Haves and the Have Nots". Lucille enjoyed a good movie or two, as well. One of her favorite movies was Dirty Dancing. She would watch it every time when it was on. She also enjoyed cooking some of her family's favorite dishes including her world-famous quiche, baked macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with Italian sausage and oxtails with lima beans and corn bread. Lucille was known for remembering everyone's birthdays and anniversaries. She could be heard singing her famous renditions of "Happy Anniversary" and "Happy Birthday" with the extra bravado at the end. It always made people smile and feel special. She had a great love of music in many genres. Some of her recent favorites were Happy by Pharrell, Yesterday by Mary, Mary, Take Me to the King by Tamela Mann, and See You Again by Wiz Khalifa. An album and a song that were on heavy rotation growing up in her household were Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder and Lean on Me by Melba Moore. Lucille was a woman of great faith. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Allenhurst and could be heard regularly saying, "I'm a different' kinda Witness!" Lucille would astound her family, friends, doctors, and nurses with her tireless spirit; many times consoling others about her own illness, giving them strength and hope, helping them find comfort, as she was sure of her final destination. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all of her many family, friends, and the friends of her children, all of whom just called her "Mama" or "Miss Lucille", and her only great-grandchild, who lovingly called her "Gigi". Hugs were plentiful with Miss Lucille, as were kind or encouraging words when you needed them. On the flip side of that, if you needed to be put in your place, she dished that out, too, with love and, at times, with comedy. Her two new catch phrases of the last few years were, "Unh uh Boo Boo!" or "Take 2 seats!" You knew you were in trouble if she used them both together! She lived a very vibrant and colorful life and will be greatly missed but never ever forgotten. Lucille was 63 and passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 26th under the care of Savannah Hospice, following a long illness. She is survived by one son, Kevin Davis of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Latrice Darrell (Kevin) of Bellport, NY, and Robyn Price of Hinesville; sister, Alice Collier of Long Island City, NY; two brothers, Anthony Davis (Benita) of Canton, Michigan, and John Brake of Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren, Little Kevin, Taylor, Kavohn and Zion; one great-grandchild, Kaiden; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and treasured friends. Mrs. Henrietta Jones, her sister in faith, was truly a Godsend to her. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ernestine Harris, and Joyce Davis. Visitation will be Friday, 7/31 from 6-8 pm and Saturday, August 1, 2015, from 3-4 p.m., at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
