Michael D. Keating

Hinesville LT COL Michael Keating (US Army, retired) of Hinesville passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015, after a long and eventful life. He was born in 1936 to Gerald and Madeline Keating in St. Louis. After graduating from college, he was inducted in to the Army and sent to Germany where he met and married his wife of 55 years. Commissioned in 1962, he served two additional tours of duty in Germany and two in Vietnam. His assignments included the 2d Calvary Regiment, VII Corps, the 101st Airborne Division, and the 24th and 25th Infantry Divisions. After retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1980, he taught for St. Leo College at Ft. Stewart, and eventually became the Program Director. In his later years, he worked as a volunteer for Liberty Memorial Hospital, the American Red Cross, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He is survived by his wife, Helga; sons, Michael, Stephen, Roland, and Jason; four grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will be 3:00 p.m., October 17, 2015, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church.
