Georgine Smith, 72, died Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici after a brief illness. Born in Augsburg, Germany, she grew up in Stadtbergen, and moved to Hinesville in 1977. She worked as a waitress for many years at several restaurants in the area. She was known for her humor and her tenacity. She spoke her mind. Georgine was well loved by a number of friends, she loved to bowl and crochet, and she was a faithful member of Pogo (and Facebook!). Survivors include her sister, Hannelore Wiedemann (Bernd) of Germany; daughters, Sabine Kolakowski, of Horton Alabama, Ute Turner (Eric) of Central, South Carolina, Corina Whaley (Warren) of Louisville, Kentucky, Susan Fuller of Homerville, Georgia; son Mark Smith (Yvette) of Hinesville; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday November 4, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:30-4 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff at Coastal Manor Nursing Home for their care of Ms. Smith and suggests memorial donations be made to Coastal Manor, 128 Coastal Manor Dr. SE, Ludowici, GA 31316.
