Betty Stinson

September 29, 1931 — February 13, 2016

Betty McSwain Stinson, 84, passed away on February 13, 2016, at the Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond Hill, GA. 

She was born on September 29, 
1931, in Tattnall County and was a long time resident of Savannah, GA.  She retired from Union Camp Corp. in 1993 after 38 years of service.  

Betty worked as a volunteer for the 1996 Olympics.  She was a finalist for the J C Penney Golden Rule Award in 1997 for delivering  Meals on Wheels in Chatham County.  She also enjoyed her time as a Wal-Mart greeter on Whitmarsh Island. She was a member of the Invincible Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Stinson, sisters Mrs. Iris Canady and Mrs. Sussie Barrow, and great grandson J.J. Clark.

She is survived by three 3 children, Jerry Stinson, Susan (Ed) Risler, and Patricia (John) Ryon; eight grandchildren,  eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel.  The memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Betty’s memory to Meals on Wheels at Senior Citizens, Inc. of Savannah, GA, or the Food Pantry at the Midway United Methodist Church in Midway, GA.
