Peggy Montez Black was born in Royston, GA, on May 9th, 1932. She was the daughter of Robbie L. Black and Margaret G. Vaughn. She passed away at the age of 84 on Thursday, June 2, 2016, surrounded by her family at Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah, GA. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. In passing, she joins her husband, Charles P. Black, son, Ricky W. Black, daughter, Lora Jeanne Collins, and great-grandson, Samuel J. Carroll.
Peggy lived in Savannah for most of her life. She was a beautician for many years and taught Sunday school for over twenty years and loved every moment of it. She moved to Richmond Hill in 1999. Peggy is best remembered for her giving, gentle nature, and her deep faith in God. Family members and friends knew her fondly as “Meme.”
She is survived by a son, Larry Smith-Black (Cathy), and a daughter, Leslie Dawn Parr (Donnie); daughter-in-law, Theresa Puder Black; grandchildren, Amanda Black, Jocelyn Collins, Bryan Black, Andrew Black, Emily Adams, Joey Howard, Chris Howard, Josh Parr and Caleb Parr; niece, Brenda, and great-niece, Leslie Gaye; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Public viewing will be 3pm-5pm, Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11am, Monday, June 6, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Abbey West in Savannah, GA.
