Myrtle Black

April 6, 1926 — December 12, 2016

Mrs. Myrtle Clotilda Forbes Black, 90, passed away December 12, 2016, at home after a long illness.

Myrtle Black was born in St. Elizabeth on the beautiful island of Jamaica, West Indies, on April 6, 1926.  She loved and feared the Lord.  Although she was serious, she had a sensitive and caring side and was willing to help whenever she was needed.

Myrtle accepted the Advent faith in 1938 and the Lord used her to bring the Advent message to the rest of her family.  Throughout her life, she was faithfully engaged with serving the Lord in various church offices.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and being a deaconess.

She began her church activities in the Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church and later moved to the North Street SDA Church in Kingston.  After migrating to New York City with her family on October 18, 1970, Myrtle continued serving the Lord at the Hanson Place SDA Church. In 1999 she moved to Hinesville, GA, with her husband.  Here she served faithfully as a deaconess and became mother "Mama" to all the members of the Hinesville First SDA Church.

Myrtle went to rest ahead of her husband of 61 years on Monday, December 12, 2016, at 5:30 am with the hope of the First Resurrection burning in her heart, where she will meet Jesus, her parents and the two siblings who preceded her.  She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Leon, Sr.; six children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; her brother and sister; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and loved ones.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 10 am, Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Hinesville First Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Mrs. Black will lie in state from 9:30 am until 10 am.  Interment will be in Hinesville Cemetery.

Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.carteroglethorpe.com.
