Robert L. Conger

Robert Lyn Conger, 45, passed away at home Thursday, April 13, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. 

Born in McKinney, TX, he was a graduate of West Mesquite High School.  He served his country in Desert Storm and the Iraq War.

Robert Conger was a patriot, a soldier, a faithful Christian, and most of all, a loving husband to Melanie and father to Andrew, Charlie, and Dulce. He was a member of Victory Assembly of God.  As a Marine, his unit was among the first to enter Kuwait City during Desert Storm.  He then was selected for Marine embassy duty and served as a guard for US Embassies in Guinea, Iceland, and Malta.  After nine years, he chose civilian life and he and Mel raised a family.  Once again, he heard the call to serve his country.  He joined the Army and served a tour of duty in Iraq.  Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with ALS.  He fought this battle in the same way he tackled everything in life.  We salute him and thank him for his courage and bravery; remember him for being the biggest Cowboys, Longhorns and Mavericks fan ever; and we thank him for always saying, “I love you.” 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 22 years, Melanie Jo Blevins Conger; sons, Andrew and Charlie Conger, and daughter, Dulce Conger; parents, Richard Lee, Sr., and Susie Conger; brother, Richard Lee Conger, Jr., and his wife, Mary; sister, Rustie Inman and her husband, Christopher; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Following funeral services in Robert’s hometown of Mesquite, TX, he will be laid to rest in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 1pm, at Victory Assembly of God in Hinesville.
