Leon Miller, 71, passed away at home Friday, August 17, 2018. He was born January 1, 1947, in Charleston, SC, to Clifford and Sarah Jinks Miller. He was raised in Charleston and Brooklyn, NY, where he graduated from high school. He served six years in the United States Marine Corps including tours in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart. A truck driver by trade, he worked for Warner Enterprises for several years. He was an entrepreneur, owning and driving his own truck until his retirement. He loved trucks and could still read any map right up until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Miller; son, Crispen Miller; and brother, Bradfield Miller.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Genia Miller; children, Leon Miller, Jr., Eugene Miller, Sonya Stewart-Williams, Ella Willingham (Michael), Tyrone Miller (Sheila), Edris Lyles, and Teia Lyles; step-children, Jesse Jones (Ruthann) and Yvonne Jones; father, Clifford Miller, Jr.; step-father, Eugene Laury, Jr.; sisters, Carolyn Miller, Deborah Jenkins, Sylvia Miller Freeman, Delores Washington, and Genrose Bray; aunts, Helen Murray and Lula Montague (Tyrone); uncles, Arthur Jinks and Wesley Jinks; numerous grandchildren, and a host of godchildren, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be 12-1 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm in the chapel.
