Louise Stewart

April 4, 1930 — December 22, 2018

Louise Powell Stewart joined her beloved husband, Talmadge Charles Stewart, in heaven on December 22, 2018.  Her funeral will be held on December 24 — on what would be their 68th wedding anniversary.

Born to Emma Davis and Johnny Norman Powell on April 4, 1930, in Telfair County, Louise was raised in Macon, where she graduated from Miller High School for Girls in 1948.  Her aptitude for bookkeeping landed her a cashier’s job at the A&P, where she met and fell in love with Charles.

Married in 1950, the couple designed and built their own homes in several communities before settling in Hinesville.  Here, they thoughtfully encouraged the intellectual, creative, and spiritual growth of their three children, Sheila, Alice, and Glenn.

Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinesville, an active ‘church lady’, deacon’s wife, a member of local, regional, and state garden clubs, an entertaining hostess, and a good friend.  She loved to nurture living things — her children, her pets, songbirds, and her gardens.

Louise is survived by her three children and their spouses, Sheila Stewart-Leach (Larry), Alice Hutchinson (Marty), and Glenn Stewart (AJaye Bowie); grandchildren, Justin Leach (Chryssie), Jasmine Leach, Jackson Leach, Allan Hutchinson (Jamie), Amy Hutchinson, Taylor Stewart, Victoria Stewart, Chelsey Williams, and Lindsay Aroneck; great-grandchildren, Addie Williams and Emery Hutchinson; and numerous cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 12:15-1 pm, Monday, December 24, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville.  The funeral will begin at 1:00 pm in the chapel.  Burial will be at 3:00 pm in the Portal Cemetery, Portal, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Regency Southern Care Hospice (912-681-6838) or the Averitt Center for the Arts (912-212-2787), both in Statesboro, GA.

Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  Online condolences can be made at www.carteroglethorpe.com.
