James L. Smith, Jr., 75, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. A resident of Liberty County for the past 32 years, he was a member of Fleming Baptist Church. He was an iron worker for many years at Fort Howard in Rincon before going to working at the Ford Plantation. Jim was a Shriner and a Mason, and he enjoyed going to craft shows. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Smith, and a son, Bryan Smith. He is survived by sons, James L. “Len” Smith (Barbie Sheppard Smith) and Jason Todd Smith, and daughter, Glee Winslett (Charlie); granddaughter, Hailey Lynn Smith; grandson, Winston Winslett; two stepchildren, Christy Chairs and Andy Lockhart; and four step-grandchildren, Jessie Curtis, John Stringfield, Craig Chairs, and Jackson Lockhart. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
