Mark Edward Hummeldorf

January 23, 1984 — November 22, 2017

Mark Edward Hummeldorf, 33, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended Oak Hill High School.  After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 19 and served with honor for 4 years.  After deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in June 2004, he participated in Operation Al Fajr in November 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq, earning a Purple Heart.  In September of 2005, he participated in the humanitarian operations in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and during the 2006 Lebanon War he assisted with noncombatant evacuation operations aboard the USS Whidbey.  After discharge, Mark transitioned to public service as a fire fighter.  He served at SSFD, Savanah Fire Rescue 1, becoming a Master Firefighter/Paramedic, and, most recently, with Parris Island Fire and Rescue. Mark loved life and lived it to the fullest. It was his nature to put others first and the true essence of his character was on full display when helping those in need.  His contagious smile and laughter often elevated the mood of those around him.  Whether it was with a kind word, a helping hand, or a self-deprecating joke, Mark possessed a natural ability to put others at ease, finding levity and humor in most any situation he encountered.  He enjoyed his 2 dogs, Beowulf & Corporal.  He loved his family, his friends, his Marines, his Firefighters/Paramedics, his CrossFit family, and his country. Most of all he loved and worshiped the love his life, Angie, and their children, Chase and soon-to-be baby girl. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Angie Heintz Hummeldorf; son, Chase Robert; mother and stepfather, Elaine Finkbeiner (Bill); father, Brian Hummeldorf; brothers, John  Hummeldorf (Stacey) and Jacob Finkbeiner; sister, Erin  Davis (Eric); paternal grandparents, Doris and Norbert Hummeldorf; maternal grandmother, Dee  Shappelle (the late Charles); a niece, a nephew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Visitation will be 4-6 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11 am, Monday, November 27, 2017, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery.  A memorial service will also be held in Cincinnati at a later date.
