We mourn the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, James C. Turner, 86, who passed into eternal rest at Mt. Pleasant Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, SC, on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Number 8 for new beginnings, 3 for the Trinity, and strong cord that cannot be broken. Born in Alma, GA (Bacon County), on March 16, 1931, James was a resident of Liberty County for nearly 57 years. A Korean War veteran, he served numerous tours of duty in South Korea and Japan. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, as well as the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal, during his service in the United States Army. He was a firefighter with the Fort Stewart Fire Department until his retirement in 1982, a bee keeper for many years, and an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He was preceded in death by his precious parents, Dock and Martha Ann Rigdon Turner; brothers, Tuck, Robert Lee and Eugene Turner; and, sister Frieda Turner Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Bratcher Turner; daughter, Connie Turner Wooten of Ludowici; three sons, James E. Turner (Pamela) of Midway, Bobby E. Turner (Kimberly) of Bloomingdale, and David M. Turner (Lisa) of Midway; his beloved twin sister Myrtice Turner Deen (Edison) of Alma; four grandsons, Alan, Kyle, Dalton and Aaron Turner; two granddaughters, Alicia Wooten Deien and Chelsea Turner Frost (Jessie); six great-grandsons; and a special foster daughter, Linda Miness. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2017, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Mike Moody officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Oglethorpe Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mr. Turner’s sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ft.
