Donald Lee Snelsire lost his courageous battle with cancer on November 25, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 3, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of George and Nellie (Selinsky) Snelsire, who preceded him in death. He was married to Patricia A. Snelsire and together they celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on November 4th. Mr. Snelsire graduated from North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh in 1960 and entered the United States Army. He received awards for Good Conduct, Army Occupation (Berlin), and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and was honorably discharged in October of 1963. He was employed with DECA as the Fort Stewart Commissary Officer until his retirement in 2009. After his retirement, he volunteered for the Red Cross, giving assistance to those going to and from Winn Army Hospital. He was a member of the Hinesville Lions Club and was on the Liberty County Board of Equalization and the Board of Directors of GeoVista Credit Union. Mr. Snelsire was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved Royal Caribbean Cruises, White Russians from Wet Willie’s, and spending time with his friends and family. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two of his brothers, Ronald Snelsire and George Snelsire, Jr. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven Snelsire (Undine) of Berlin, Germany, Beth Dallara (Davis Simpkins) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Kelly Schroer of Fort Worth, TX, Wendy Kirkby (Keith Smith) of Hinesville, GA, and Craig Necci (Susan) of Dublin, GA; eleven grandchildren, Joshua Hunter of Binghamton, NY, Samantha Herrivan of Medina, NY, Sydney and Savannah Kirkby of Cooperstown, NY, Christian and Matthew Schroer of Fort Worth, TX, Kimi, Gina, and Abby Snelsire of Berlin, Germany, and Madison and Malori Necci of Dublin, GA; one great-grandchild, Levi Herrivan of Medina, NY, and another one on the way; and his brother, Gary Snelsire (Carol) of Pittsburgh, PA. In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church, 399 Woodland Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313, or Heartland Hospice, 117 Drennon Drive, Jesup, GA 31545. Funeral Mass will begin at 11am, Friday, December 2, 2016, at St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church. The family will greet friends immediately following the Mass in the Narthex.
