Rincon Roland Fleming Parker left this earth November 19, 2016, at 8:00 a.m., due to a short illness. He was the husband of Sandra Garrett Parker; father to Russell Roland and Sharri Leigh; grandfather to Candace, Danyelle, Lilly and Jack and great grandfather to Tobi Cheri. Roland was born in 1941 to Rudolph Roland Parker and Dora DeCue Gregory Parker, Richmond Hill, Georgia. His brothers, Ronald Gregory, Michael Nelson, and sister, Vicki Fay grew up in Richmond Hill and was the grandson of J.F. Gregory. Roland attended Georgia Southern University when it was still Georgia Teachers College. He served is country in the United States Air Force and spent one year in Viet Nam and Southeast Asia. Roland was a member of Rincon United Methodist Church and as a child belonged to Richmond Hill Methodist Church. Following his service in the Air Force he went to work for National Cash Register in 1966 as a computer tech and retired in 2004. He was an avid golfer. His two brothers and his son would tell you some really, funny stories. He was a sportsman – loved to fish, go crabbing and throw the shrimp net. And he was a Georgia boy all the way. The true Southern Gentleman. Funeral services will be held at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November, 23, 2016, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Burnt Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, Hospice Savannah or the Methodist Children’s home in Macon, Georgia.
