Harold "Butch" James Hemingway

CW2 Harold James “Butch” Hemingway (United States Army, retired), 75, died at home Friday, September 9, 2016, under the care of Hospice Compassus. He was born in Miami, Florida, and had lived in Hinesville since 1973.  Retired from the US Army after 20 years of service, he was a Vietnam War Veteran and a member and past president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 789.  He was a member of American Legion Post 321 and VFW Post 6602. He was also retired from Civil Service at Fort Stewart.  Butch was a die-hard fan of the Miami Dolphins and Florida Gators. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn Hemingway. Surviving are his son, Curt Hemingway of Columbia, SC, and daughter, Kathryn Hemingway of Hinesville; a brother, Raymond Hemingway of Phenix City, AL; two sisters, July McClung and Mimi Upshaw, both of Phenix City; and three grandchildren, Samantha Sebera, Anthony Hemingway, and Alexandria Hemingway. Visitation will be 12-1:30pm, Monday, September 19, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.  A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with the Reverend Deacon Adna “Chad” Chaffee officiating.  Committal Service will be at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Vietnam Veterans of America Post 789, P.O. Box 1679, Hinesville, GA  31310. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
