Hinesville Omasa Ito Dowd, 84, died at home Friday, August 12, 2016, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Compassus. Born in Miyagi Ken, Japan, she lived in Hinesville for 48 years and was employed by AAFES on Fort Stewart for 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eugene Dowd of Hinesville; sons, Frank “Bobby” Dowd of Savannah and Nick Dowd (Teresa) of Frisco, TX; and grandchildren, Nick Ito Dowd of Savannah and Taylor and Olivia Dowd of Frisco. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. A private family burial will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. Mrs. Dowd’s family wishes to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Jennifer Brumant and Gunnette Harris, both of Hinesville, and Hospice Compassus.
