Mary Ann Douglas left on a new adventure so peacefully on July 29, 2016, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Born Mary Akins to the late Andrew and Suzie Akins in Douglas, Georgia, on April 14, 1930, she was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook. Besides her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Earnest J. Douglas; daughter, Jacqueline Cooler; brother, Olin Akins; and three sisters, Lorena Spivey, Estelle Carver, and Charlotte Forest. Survivors are her brother, A.J. Akins (Quava); four sons and a daughter, Harvey Douglas (Sonya) Ronny Douglas (Diana), Leon Douglas (Betty), Joseph Douglas, and Anna Carter (Daniel Lunsford); 16 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The Memorial Service will begin at 3pm, Friday, August 5, 2016, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Mom, Granny, Big Granny - Rest in peace, great lady. We will miss you so. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to bring a flower and take it home to plant in mom’s memory, she would love that.
